Unbelievarmor Megami [Prerelease]
Deck Description
I haven't tested much with The Strange Specter of Celestial Severance yet, but theoretically it should be really good here, currently I'm playing Upstart King Rex in those slots if you want to try that instead.
Daigyakutenno Megami is the definition of gimmicky. To get full value out of its effect, you first need specifically a copy of Gyakutenno Megami, a level 6 vanilla, in your grave to activate it in the first place, and you need to send the specific monster type you need off the top of your deck that is present on your opponent's board, and if your opponent only has 1 of that type the effect doesn't do anything anyway. The card just requires a tad too much setup for a mediocre effect. A potential board wipe is cool and all, but if you wanted to wipe the board you're better off playing something like Pressure Order and activate Dragonic Pressure instead, which can kill regardless of monster type, can't fail due to random chance and has a more manageable requirement than having a specific terrible card in grave (namely discarding any 3 Dragons). That being said Megami is incredibly stylish so we're going to try to make it work.
There are 3 ways you can attempt to make Daigyakutenno Megami work: Using type changing effects (Type Change Beam, Bio Mechamantis e.t.c), running a high amount of a specific type you expect to play against (e.g. running more Galaxy type monsters to hit the commonly used Level 7 normals in Gate Order), or the strategy this deck is using: stacking the deck.
We run 2 seperate ways to stack the deck: Firstly, Peeking Magician, which if used alongside Daigyakutenno Megami, will be able to check both the draw and mill off of Megami's effect, allowing you to decide which you want in your hand and which you want to hit the grave. Next, we are playing a very silly build-around: Unbelievarmor. This card requires you to put 3 differently typed Level 7 or higher monsters on the top or bottom of your deck to debuff by 1.5k ATK and also add a normal monster back to hand from the grave. We're mostly going to choose to stack these on top, which allows us to effectively add whatever level 7 monster we want from the grave to our hand if you play it alongside Daigyakutenno's effect (the draw off Daigyakutenno will be whatever you choose to stack on top first with Unbelievarmor) and will also let you choose what you're milling off the secondary portion of the effect to hopefully kill what you want. Since the full setup allows you to add whatever Level 7 or higher you want from your grave, you could hypothetically play one of the high level Legend monsters (such as Barrel Dragon) but we don't need to do that as there's already a good non-legend target: Thunderbold the Lightningfire Deity. With the Normal monster you add off of Unbelievarmor, you should have the tribute fodder to tribute summon whatever you draw and Thunderbold will allow you to get an extra body on board, in the very best case scenario you would've killed 2 monsters, debuffed the 3rd one and have 8k+ damage on board.
Our 2 tribute lineup consists of the main combo pieces: 3 Daigyakutenno Megami, 1 Thunderbold the Lightningfire Deity and 1 CAN - Melo:D. Melo:D is still very potent alongside Thunderbold for looping away all your opponent's set cards, both backrow and monsters alike. As such we are also on 2 Howlingbird to facilitate the Melo:D loop. Melo:D also happens to be a Psychic, as such if you need to kill Psychic monsters with Megami you can stack the Melo:D to do so (likely will come in handy given they just got supported with the introduction of Megaroad Pack). The rest of the 2 tributes aim to cover the most ground in terms of types you will expect to want to destroy with Megami. We've chosen 1 Galactica Oblivion for the Galaxy type against Gate Order. Galactica Oblivion is also a normal monster in case you need to add a 2 tribute monster off of Unbelievarmor. 1 Multistrike Dragon Dragias for Dragon decks like Pressure Order, 1 Sevens Road Magician for decks like Fusion Spellcaster and Jointech Rex for the Light Machine matchup. You can also consider running Ultimate Flag Mech Ace Breaker in this slot, Jointech is a handy add if you still hadn't found the Thunderbold yet if you want to clear backrow. 3 Gyakutenno Megami for the 1 tributes since they're mandatory for the Daigyakutenno effect.
For low levels, 3 Amazing Dealer for consistency and 2 Howlingbird for the Melo:D loop. 3 Peeking Magician as an alternative way to attempt to set up Daigyakutenno Megami if you fail to find Armor. 3 of The Strange Specter of Celestial Severance as another form of consistency, a lot of our pieces want to be in grave and this is as such a perfect fit. 3 Transamu Rainac for 2 reasons, 1 is that it is the highest ATK low level Normal monster, and is as such the biggest low level add off Unbelievarmor. 2nd is it being a Galaxy makes it easier to hit Galaxy monsters off Daigyakutenno, whether you have Peeking Magician to set it up or you highroll into it. 2 Rhythmical Performer is a potential +1 and the mill can potentially get you the pieces you need. It's not very consistent in actually getting you a +1 unless you're playing against something like Gate Order (which is a pretty popular competitive choice admittedly), so if you're worried about not getting any real value from it you can choose one of the higher impact low levels with better utility like Wording Fairy, Satellite Pegasus or Upstart King Rex (there are many others, this is a flex slot so choose whatever you feel is best).
For spells we've got 3 Ship of Seven Treasures and 3 Heavenly Gift, 6 non-legend draw spells to really dig through the deck and get rid of things like the Gyakutenno Megami from your hand. Speaking of draw spells our legend of choice is Graceful Charity for the same reason, adding up to 7 draw spells. 3 Unbelievarmor since it is the main combo piece and finally 2 Enraged Scale Liberation, another way to accelerate the setup for the graveyard reliant cards.
The deck is overall very satisfying to play when everything goes right: playing against an opponent who has the types of monsters you choose to counter, drawing the pieces necessary and blowing the board up. Realistically this is a worse Thunderbold variant but it nonetheless is very fun to pilot. If you want to try a unique take on a combo deck utilising two of the most underutilised cards printed, this deck is for you.
